Transgender Day of Remembrance #TDOR2019

Updated: Nov 23, 2019

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) began in honor of Rita Hester, a Black transgender woman (BTGW) who was murdered on Nov 28, 1998 in her home two days shy of her 35th birthday. She was stabbed at least 20 times in the chest. Her murder inspired #TDoR to honor trans people who were killed. Black & Latina transwomen are most impacted by transphobic violence. So far in 2019, 22 trans people were killed. Most were BTGW. Most under 30. Two additional TGW died in custody., One transman was among those killed in the Dayton massacre.
