Faisal Alam is a gay Pakistani-American and founder of the Al-Fatiha Foundation, an international organization dedicated to the LGBTQI Muslim community. Faisal was born in Pakistan and moved to the US in 1987 with his family. Struggling to reconcile his sexuality with his faith, he started a listserv for LGBTQ Muslims which was the precursor for Al-Fatiha. In 2011, Faisal was invited by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force to form a Queer Muslim Working Group to evaluate the needs of the LGBTQ Muslim community. In 2013, the Queer Muslim Working Group launched a new organization: the Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity. Faisal was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the LGBT Program at Human Rights Watch. #LGBTQHistory #QTPOCHistory #QTPOCMuslimHistory #FaisalAlam #Intersectionality
