Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl who was born in Germany in 1929. She and her family moved to the Netherlands after the Nazis gained control of Germany. Soon, they came to occupy the Netherlands as well which led Anne and her family to go into hiding. Her writings, The Diary of a Young Girl, published posthumously, detailed the years she and her family hid from the Nazis in a secret annex from 1942 to 1944. Anne and her family were eventually discovered, arrested, and transported to concentration camps. Anne, aged 15, her sister, and mother all died in the Holocaust. Only her father Otto survived. He sought to have her diary published. It has since been translated into more than 60 languages.
